New Years Eve 2010
The celebration of this holiday begins when people gather to wish each other a happy and prosperous coming year. At the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve (10 pm Arizona Time), they all cheer; while others sing "Auld Lang Syne." The song, which means "old long since" or roughly "the good old days," was written by Robert Burns in 1788. The making of New Year's resolutions - pledges to change for the better in the coming year - is a common activity associated with this holiday. It is traditional to make toasts on New Year's Eve as well. Typically, the old year is represented by "Father Time," an elderly man with a flowing gray beard (Big Al?), and the New Year is represented by an infant (I believe Savannah was the youngest in attendance that night "Counting down to midnight, the new year beckons With bright lights and music, a stolen kiss, a favorite wish and sweet memories of times gone by."
Happy New Year!
A special thanks goes to those people who helped to make this party at the Legion a success. Our Post Commander, Big Al San Souci, and the Ladies Auxiliary President, Mary Ann San Souci, played a large part in planning the event. 1st Vice Commander Lusco handled the ordering of the food with 2nd Vice Commander Joe Catone and his wife, Executive Board Member Sue Catone, keeping things somewhat orderly in the food preparation area; with the help of their kids Austin & Savannah. And let's not forget the volunteers (Fran, Lois, Jerry, to name but a few…) who came in to set up the room the day before; those who helped prepare and serve the meal that evening; and last but not least, those who cleaned up after the party. Thank you all! Dave Broyles. Post 62 Historian
